PosteHack 2016 – 2 Edition – I was there

Questo articolo è stato scritto oltre 1 years, il contenuto potrebbe essere datato.

As I mentioned in the last article I attended the last weekend an Hackaton organized by the Italian Post Service (Poste Italiane) at Talent Garden of Rome.

The program is still online (italiano).

The purpose was to create an idea that would improve the pre and after experience at post offices.

I leave a few videos (Italian) before continuing with explanations.

A video pre hackaton presentation by the Talent Garden:

An intervista about why Poste Italiane made that hackaton:

This team was the 3st winner but the video was filmed before the winning:

An interview to Cisco that was on the technologic partner:

My team was made starting from the left, Simone Demelas (marketing), me (programmer), Federico Venditozzi (designer), Lucrezia Argentino (marketing) and Eugenio Petulla (programmer):
RaccomandApp

Simone was the purchase because our team was 4 people but we thought that given the experience of Simone an extra hand would not hurt, and saw the result our thought was right.

The creation of the team made with post it

Our experience

It all started Friday evening with the presentation of the various technologies and the first ideas we have outlined as a team.

Saturday we started working on our prototype designed for the addition of a new feature to the app Post Office (Ufficio Postale) of the Italian Post service.

We put in the middle of our experiences with the recommended postal service and decided it would be very useful to be able to book a new delivery schedule, but in a simplified way.

In Italy a Lettera Raccomandata (recommended letter) is a letter with a receipt of delivery that is used for legal and specific notification. In case you are not at home or office when the postman arrive you receive a receipt to retire that letter in a specific post office.

So we used Tropo by Cisco (one of the technologies available) to creating a PBX for those who don’t have the app installed or an account but wants to use the service.

From my programmer’s point of view it has been the discovery of the century because it allows the creation of a PBX with SMS support easily via JavaScript and NodeJS.

The PBX code is this. It is a prototype so the person’s name will be taken through the Post service customer database, the address via the nearest post office or where the registered mail, send SMS with the code that we have not implemented for limits of the hackaton (since they did not have a tropo number for Italians to use).

Furthermore, our idea was also to create two methods for fast withdrawal of the registered letter at the post office.
Or the presence of a fast counter where the stand through the reservation provided for the early recovery of the same in order to avoid the wait, while the other solution was automated, and it comes to an ATM where you are using the code sent via SMS or from the app itself for the withdrawal of the recommended.

The app prototype that we built was to show the process for using this functionality and its various steps and functions.

The app is on https://eugeniopetulla.github.io/postehack/, the first visit mobile or desktop is sent to a notification device (if you enable the browser permissions) that inform the user of a recommended letter in storage.

With this first action is to notify you of a news and then him will choose how to make the withdrawal.

The Stampa (print) tab, used to be able to download digital recommended without having to request the withdrawal of the paper. In fact, many services such as banks or bills are not sent directly from the service providers but the same are sent in digital format to the Italian Post Office that handles the printing and delivery.

In this way we simplify the user a step because not all services have the ability to disable the sending of paper recommended.

The Giacenza (to retire the letter to the office) has two methods to scan the inventory receipt or manually by entering the received code, or by taking a picture of the barcode.

Unfortunately for time limit and reliability we preferred not to implement a real scan of the bar code.

If you click either button will appear regarding the recommended data in storage and the possibility of some actions.

From mobile if you click on Gestione Telefonica (Phone Management) will be made possible for the user to call the PBX.

Otherwise, the other solution is the withdrawal through ATMs that uses Cisco Meraki technology that allows you to communicate with routers and know which devices are connected to the network.

In this way the user can take advantage of the Poste Wifi network free of charge and the same is confirmed by the presence of the person in front of the ATM and receive the code.

In a nutshell we have proposed two solutions to fit the difference ages of the Italian Post Office customers, or a PBX that we could say more analog and a digital allowing the withdrawal physically post office.

Sunday afternoon we completed the presentation of the project for the pitch, and we presented our project along with other 8 teams with 5 per team.
